According to a new update from The Sun, as many as three stars have surpassed Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi as the highest earning players in football, while two Africans are listed among the 10 best paid stars in the game.
The English publication recently updated their list of the highest earning players, including the new salaries of the likes of Paul Pogba, Hulk and Graziano Pelle after their moves in the recent transfer window.
While Neymar, for example, also agreed to a new deal, which sees him move up the ranking, Ronaldo and Messi's improved contracts are yet to be confirmed.
Two African stars appear on the list, although Asamoah Gyan's salary needs to be questioned – the Ghana striker was among the 10 highest earners after joining Shanghai SIPG last season, but left the club to join Al-Ahli in Dubai on loan. However, The Sun still lists him with his £227 000 (R3.88 million) weekly wage from the 2015/16 campaign.
