After seeing off AC Milan in the Coppa Italia and beating Lazio last weekend, Juventus will be looking to wrap up this week on a great note by taking care of Sassuolo on Sunday afternoon.
There will be an element of revenge in mind perhaps, as the last time Juventus visited this ground, they suffered a shock loss to the Neroverdi. However, fans may wryly thank Sassuolo for that, as that proved to be the spark the Bianconeri needed to get their season back on track. Following that October 28th defeat, Juventus lost just one game in the league en route to winning a fifth straight Scudetto title.
The wins over Milan and Lazio were the kind of reaction Massimiliano Allegri would have demanded after La Vecchia Signora were defeated 2-1 on the road against Fiorentina. All of Juve’s defeats have happened on the road, and certainly, the last thing they would want is to end up dropping more points away from Juventus Stadium.
Sassuolo, however, is far from the side that managed to finish in sixth spot last season. Eusebio Di Francesco’s team featured in Europe for the first time in their history, but injuries unfortunately stretched an already-thin side to the breaking point. Key forward Domenico Berardi, who has been instrumental in Sassuolo’s impressive rise, has spent most of the time out on the treatment table. The Neroverdi were dumped out of the Europa League group stages despite impressing in qualifying, and now are out of the Coppa Italia after being beaten by Serie B side Cesena.
The Neroverdi do come into this game having earned a 3-1 win over Pescara, which makes it back-to-back league wins for Sunday’s hosts. In addition, they have a comfortable gap between themselves and the bottom three, so relegation, for now, is not an immediate threat. Striker Alessandro Matri has been in inspired form lately, and will surely want to have a chance to shine against his former side.

Sassuolo vs Juventus: Prediction
Allegri has tinkered with his formation again to play Paulo Dybala, Mario Mandzukic, and Gonzalo Higuain all on the pitch at the same time. Many critics said that it wouldn’t work, but so far, it has paid dividends as evidenced by Juve’s performances against Milan and Lazio. Expect him to do the same on Sunday, and that will simply be too much for Sassuolo to handle, although they may grab a goal. La Vecchia Signora should be able to earn a relatively comfortable win and continue their march towards an unprecedented sixth straight Scudetto.
