West Ham vs Manchester City FA Cup – Third Round. Date: Friday, 6th January 2017, Kick-off at 19:55 UK. Venue: Wembley Stadium, London.
West Ham will be looking to get back to w inning ways when they welcome Manchester City to the Wembley stadium for the third round fixture of the 2016-17 FA Cup.
The Hammers were beaten in two consecutive league games in build up to this FA Cup fixture. The first one was at Leicester by a narrow 1-0 margin and the latest at home against Man United by a 2-0 score-line. Coming back to the FA Cup, the Hammers had a decent run last season by reaching as far as the quarter finals of the tournament. But this term, they are drawn against one of the toughest oppositions in English football, Manchester City.
Pep Guardiola is clearly struggling as Manchester City have failed to produce quality performances on a consistent basis this season. There are also disciplinary issues with players as Sergio Aguero and Fernandinho have received two red cards each.
One could argue that the team is yet to gel with the Spaniard’s tactics. It is already half a season and we cannot predict what to expect from the sky blues every week. Manchester City are coming on the back of a 2-1 win over Burnley, a result which could have easily gone the other way.
West Ham vs Manchester City: Head-to-head stats
Manchester City have a good record while playing away to West Ham United. They were defeated only twice in the last 11 visits and picked up 5 wins and 4 draws during the period.
The teams have already met once this season, on September 2016 at the Etihad. Raheem Sterling scored twice in the 3-1 home win for the Citizens, while Michael Antonio found the net for the Hammers.
There is only 1 draw in the last 10 meetings between the two sides in all competitions. The head-to-head once again favours the Sky Blues as they won 7 times during the process, losing twice.
West Ham vs Manchester City: Prediction
Slaven Bilic is short of options after missing 10 players through injuries and suspension. This is their fourth fixture in the space of 12 days and there will be some tired legs in the squad. And this could well favour the visiting Citizens on Friday night.
Manchester City are certainly not convincing with their performances as in previous seasons. But they have managed to scrape through with wins on most occasions. West Ham is already struggling with fatigue and Pep Guardiola’s men are poised to edge another narrow win here.
