After a shock loss to Sampdoria, Roma will be aiming to make club history as they welcome Fiorentina to the Stadio Olimpico on Tuesday evening.
Round 22 was one full of lots of surprises, and quite a few big teams ended up dropping points. That included Roma’s defeat to the Blucheriati, as well as losses for Lazio and AC Milan, whilst Fiorentina and Napoli both had to settle for draws. However, the Lupi have been quite strong at home, where they have won 13 straight games and now match a record dating back to November 1930.
Their strong home record has been quite vital for Luciano Spalletti’s side, who again are trying to knock Juventus off their title perch. Roma come into this game having had a few days’ more rest than others, and one benefit is the fact that they will know where Juventus stands after Sunday’s Derby d’Italia tie. Certainly, it goes without saying that they will be hoping that Inter can do them a bit of a favor and manage to prevent the Bianconeri from making it a 28th consecutive home league win. But all in all, at the end of the day Roma are masters of their own destiny and will be hoping to make a bit of history against the Viola in a few days’ time.
Meanwhile, the Gigliati earned a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Pescara in their make-up game. It wasn’t as smooth sailing as fans would have expected, and in fact, Paulo Sousa’s side had to come from behind against the worst-performing side in the league. Interestingly enough, Fiorentina’s losses have all taken place away from the Stadio Artemio Franchi, and they are coming up against a team yet to lose a match on home turf.
That, on paper, does not bode well for the visitors, but as we have seen, football is indeed an unpredictable thing, and one thing is certain: this should be an interesting game from start to finish.

Both teams will be eager to rebound after shipping three goals in their respective games that saw the Lupi lose whilst the Gigliati barely hung on for a draw. Roma’s perfect run at the Stadio Olimpico should not be discounted, and the Lupi should be able to bounce back. However, it won’t be easy, as Fiorentina will be up for a fight.
