2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers – Europe, Group F.

Venue: Wembley Stadium.
England resumes their World Cup qualification campaign sitting at top of Group F after having earned 10 points from their first four matches. Their opponents Lithuania are fourth in the standings with 5 points.
The Three Lions started off the qualifiers in an unconvincing fashion despite winning their opening two matches. The win at Slovakia came by a narrow 1-0 margin with a fair chunk of lucky aiding the course.
A similar struggle was seen in their 2-0 home win against one of the weakest teams in Europe, Malta. They were then held to a goal-less draw by Slovenia before showing some lethal touch against neighbouring Scotland in the 3-0 win.
Lithuania are huge underdogs in the group, with only Malta ranked lower than them. They held Slovenia and Scotland to draws in the first two fixtures before edging past Malta 2-0 in the very next fixture. However, the were brought to ground by Slovakia who eased past on a 4-0 margin. If Lithuania are to mount a strong challenge for a place in the World Cup, they must do better than just earning draws.

England vs Lithuania: Head-to-head

The teams were grouped together during the qualification phase of the Euro 2016. England won both fixtures with clean-sheets, 4-0 at home and 3-0 at Lithuania.

England vs Lithuania: Prediction

For England, this is a perfect chance to extend the lead at the top of the table. With only one team earning automatic qualification from the groups, these are the kind of fixtures the Three Lions must win.
The absence of Harry Kane might be the major head-line ahead of this qualification fixture. We have already seen in the friendly against Germany that the trio of Vardy, Sterling and Alli have got things covered.
Lithuania will be hoping to steal a point from this away fixture. They scored the first goal in three of their four qualification matches so far. But England have better and intimidating statistics in the qualifiers, let it be European or World Cup. The Three Lions are currently unbeaten in 33 qualification matches, with their last defeat dating back to 2009.
Gareth Southgate’s team will be too good for their visitors on the Sunday evening; and they are poised to win this by a comfortable margin.
