An exciting football match is on the prospect when Germany host England at the Signal Iduna Park on Wednesday, 22nd March 2017.
Lukas Podolski, who announced his retirement from international duty the Euro 2016 will make in final appearance in Wednesday’s friendly. The 31-year will hang up his boots after representing the national team on 130 occasions.
Joachim Low has decided to call up the red-hot RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner for the first time to the national squad. The 21-year old winger has scored 14 goals so far this season for the new promoted side.
England coach Gareth Southgate must do without the service of his key striker Harry Kane, who is sidelined with a foot injury. It can be termed as a mini crisis in the forward line and the manager is forced to call up the 34-year-old Jermain Defoe, who currently play his trade with the rock-bottom Premier League club Southampton. The only other forwards in the team are young Manchester United prodigy Marcus Rashford and Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy.
However, Southgate has plenty of talent in the midfield with the likes of Dele Alli, Adam Lallana and Raheem Sterling in fine form for their respective clubs. Meanwhile, Southampton’s Nathan Redmond has earned his first call-up for the Three Lions at the expense on injured West Ham midfielder Michail Antonio.

Germany: Team News

The breaking news from the German camp is that Mesut Ozil, Julian Draxler and Mario Gomez are sidelined with injuries.
To make the matters worse, Manuel Neuer is also expected to miss the England friendly with a late injury scare. However, adequate cover is available in the department in the form of Barcelona shot-stopper Ter Stegen.
Despite missing a number of key players, the Mannschaft’s predicted line-up still look the strongest on paper.

Germany: Predicted Starting Line-up (4-2-3-1)

Ter Stegen – Hector, Hummels, Howedes, Kimmich – Kroos, Khedira – Schurrle, Muller, Sane – Podolski.

England: Team News

West Ham’s versatile winger Michail Antonio and United defender Phil Jones are late omissions for the friendly due to injuries. Meanwhile, Tottenham full-back Kyle Walker is likely to miss out with a fitness issue.
It is very likely that Vardy will spearhead the attack with young guns Sterling and Rashford offering support from the flanks.

England: Predicted Starting Line-up (4-3-3)

Hart – Bertrand, Cahill, Stones, Clyne – Alli, Dier, Lallana – Sterling, Rashford, Vardy.

Germany vs England: Head-to-head stats

It is almost a year since the teams met in a friendly at the Olympiastadion in Berlin. We saw an excellent contest back then as England bounced back from 2 goals down with win the tie 3-2. Kane, Vardy nullified the deficit before Eric Dier scored the winner in the injury time.
There is little to separate between the two while looking at their recent meetings. They share 4 wins each from the last eight, which means we can expect another tight contest on Wednesday.
However, the Three Lions were victorious in their last three visits to Germany. The latest two are by narrow 1 goal margins. But the one that stands out is the 5-1 thumping during the World Cup Qualification fixture on 2001.

Germany vs England: Prediction

Looking at the team sheet, Germany look like a settled side than England. With the latest injury to Harry Kane and the nature of the three forwards called up, it remained to be seen how they are going to find the goals. Meanwhile, Low’s team are well accustomed to play with a false nine.
Once again, this could be a tight clash. But the Germans will prove too good over the course of 90 minutes. Expect a higher number of goals in this fixture as both teams have plenty of holes to fix in their defense.
