The Switzerland football team cannot wish for a better start to their World Cup qualification campaign. They won in each of their first four matches and sit at the top of the table with 12 points.
The most important thing is that they have already defeated Portugal and Hungary, the two contenders for the top position in Group B. The early cushion is useful, but there is little room for comfort as Portugal are 3 points behind and Hungary at 5 points.
Meantime, Latvia have so far suffered some massive blows in their qualification campaign. They are not only beaten by the higher ranked teams Hungary and Portugal, but were also beaten at home by the lower ranker Faroe Islands. This is already a tricky group, now Latvia are left with minimal hope to surprise any of the big guns in group b.

The previous meeting between the two sides was during the 2010 World Cup qualification campaign. Switzerland were surprisingly held to a 2-2 draw in the second leg at Latvia. But the Swiss escaped with a narrow 2-1 win in the home leg.

With form and abundance of quality in their side, Switzerland are expected to brush aside Latvia for a fifth consecutive win. Latvia are expected to sit back and defend to avoid a humiliation. But the Swiss won’t mind it, they know how to break the toughest of defences.
