The last time Juventus visited Genoa, they were given a rude shock as they were beaten 3-1.
Arguably, that game in November was the lowest point for the Turin titans, as it marked the first time under Massimiliano Allegri’s tenure that La Vecchia Signora had shipped three goals. At that time, the Grifone were flying high and many had considered them as a dark horse for a European spot.
Well, things have changed drastically since then. Juventus bounced back and went on to win an unprecedented sixth straight Scudetto. Meanwhile, Genoa suffered a shocking collapse – including shipping five to Pescara sans reply – and flirted with relegation before barely surviving the drop and changing managers midway through the season.
Ivan Juric, who was sacked and re-hired, is back, but with a dramatically changed squad. Giovanni Simeone, arguably one of the team’s brightest young stars, is now plying his trade with Fiorentina and they come into this game having earned a rather drab scoreless stalemate with Sassuolo. Genoa have pretty much now sold off now all their key players and despite bringing in replacements, it will be interesting to see how the Grifone cope this season with these changes.
Meanwhile, Juventus, who also saw the departure of some notable names – namely Leonardo Bonucci – started their title defense off well, with a solid victory over Cagliari. That win helped to assuage some nervous fans’ nerves, especially after their Supercoppa Italiana loss to Lazio.
Mario Mandzukic netted the first goal for Juve – and also the first goal of the Serie A campaign, before Paulo Dybala and Gonzalo Higuain got in on the action. Higuain has scored five goals in eight appearances versus Genoa and so will be looking forward to taking them on this Saturday.

Genoa vs Juventus: Predictions
Having lost here last year, the Bianconeri will be loath to allow that to happen yet again. In all honesty, barring an utter shocking collapse, that’s unlikely to happen. Genoa isn’t the side they were last November and it’s hard to see them troubling the visiting champions much. Juventus have not just won four out of the last five meetings between the two sides, but have recorded shut-outs in those.
