It’s always a huge clash when two of Italy’s biggest teams – AC Milan and Juventus – meet, and Saturday evening certainly is set to be no exception.

Milan finally ended their four game win-less streak by earning a well-deserved 4-1 road win over Chievo, which definitely also saved Vincenzo Montella’s job, at least for now. Prior to that, the Rossoneri had lost three in a row and scraped to a draw with Genoa, leaving Montella’s position hanging by a thread.

That’s not to say that he’s out of the hot-seat just yet, as the rumor mill continues to link a slew of others with the position, but at the very least, the victory temporarily halted a disturbing downward slide for the Diavolo that now has seen them fall well behind the pace in the battle for a top four spot.

Top four is where Milan had wanted to find themselves after spending quite a bit, especially as Italy will get four Champions League spots. That seems like it’s going to be hard to achieve, but the Rossoneri are still very much afloat in the Europa League. For now, though, they will have to focus on taking on Juventus, albeit without the services of Leonardo Bonucci, who misses out due to suspension.

Meanwhile, Juventus arrive at the Stadio San Siro having cruised to a comfortable 4-1 win over SPAL, and that makes it two wins on the spin for the Bianconeri. That keeps them solidly in third, still nipping at the heels of Inter and Napoli in what has definitely shaped up to be a more competitive and interesting Scudetto race this season.

It was also obviously the result Massimiliano Allegri wanted to see after Juventus saw their long-standing home unbeaten record fall following a 2-1 loss at the Allianz Stadium to Lazio on match-day eight. Having rotated for this match with SPAL, Allegri will naturally field his strongest starting XI again for this mouthwatering match-up.
